This three-hour tour will take you to some of his most striking works by Michelangelo that exist in the city of Florence
We start with a walk in the historic center to see the sculpture that inspired Michelangelo’s David, and to view the copy of the David in the city’s main piazza, where you will learn how this statue amazed the Florentine people and why the decision was made to place it in front of the town hall. Next is a visit to the Accademia where the real David awaits us. Seeing this great masterpiece of the High Renaissance is one of the most sublime experiences the city offers.
Walking to the quarter of San Lorenzo, we’ll enter the Medici Chapel, which is the Medici family’s mausoleum and the most striking example of the family’s self glorification. From the chapel we reach the New Sacristy—a masterful space designed by Michelangelo using a unique combination of architecture and sculpture. Learn how Michelangelo’s architecture here pushed the boundaries of the classical style, and about the symbolism infused in his sculptures for the Medici tombs.
